About Hermès

The French fashion house Hermès stands for class, craftsmanship and 100% made in France. The hand-made products are of the very best quality. Well-known products are the Kelly and Birkin Bags and the silk scarves. The famous fashion designer Jean-Paul-Gaultier designed collections for this fashion house from 2003 to 2011.

Company history

The company was founded in Paris in 1837 by Thierry Hermès. The company began as a saddlery, producing saddles for wealthy families. At the end of the 19th century, the nobility took up travelling as a new hobby, which made travelling by horse less popular. Hermes then introduced products that were necessary for travelling, such as cabin trunks and bags. These new products also had to meet high standards: the elite of Europe appreciated the high quality.

The company’s collection continued to expand. In 1920, the company started offering watches and jewellery. Other products offered by the company are shoes, ties, perfumes and home accessories.

Hermès opened shops all over the world. The Flagship of the company is still the shop on the rue de Faubourg Saint Honoré in Paris. World stars such as Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Jacqueline Kennedy and Brigitte Bardot belong to the clientele of this famous fashion house.

Hermès is doing well

In March 2019, the company announced its 2018 results. Hermes then, unlike many other luxury brands that are experiencing declining sales, is doing well. The company’s sales increased by 7.7 percent in 2018. Hermès is optimistic about the future. The higher sales and higher profits are mainly due to the many Asian customers.

Do you think Hermès will manage to make more profits in the increasingly wealthy Asian market in the future? In that case, it might be interesting to buy Hermès shares.

Turnover growth in third quarter

Turnover growth returned in the third quarter of 2020. In the shops, revenue growth in the third quarter was 12 per cent. The shops in Europe had to deal with far fewer tourists, which was partly compensated by local purchases.

In Asia, the third quarter was successful. Sales rose by 29 percent. This increase in turnover is mainly due to the increased number of online sales. In America, sales decreased by 29 percent. According to the company, this is mainly due to the closure of shops in Hawaii.

This is also a good opportunity for Hermès, which may continue due to the corona pandemic: by increasing its position on the Internet, people can buy the company’s products more easily.
